Which flag football playbook app fits your team?

The short answer

Choose Routr for a 5v5 iPhone or iPad playbook, Playmaker X for a mixed-device staff, or FirstDown PlayBook for a broader library. Set Hike suits iPad coaches who want score and clock tools beside their plays; Routr is made by us.

Routr: made by us

Choose Routr when you want to draw and organise 5v5 calls on iPhone or iPad. Start with twelve plays, make editable copies and reshape the routes for your team. Pin this week’s calls in Game Day and keep the play numbers consistent with your sideline cards.

The free version gives you five plays of your own. Pro adds unlimited plays and folders, route-and-defense animation, coverage shells, PDF pages, wristbands, call sheets and playbook sending. Plays live on the device, and iCloud sync is not available yet.

Open Trips Stick to see the stick-and-flat read or Center Pivot for a short man-coverage call. Check pricing for the monthly, yearly and lifetime Pro options.

Playmaker X: for coaches using different devices

Choose Playmaker X when your staff works across iPhone, Android and computer browsers. Its cloud backup and sync keep plays available across compatible devices. It supports four to nine players per side, with animation and printing tools.

Use the Print or Team direct-pay plan when wristbands and call sheets are part of your preparation. In-app prices differ. Compare the plan your whole staff needs in the Playmaker X comparison.

FirstDown PlayBook: for a broader editable library

Choose FirstDown PlayBook when you want pre-drawn plays to edit across football formats. Prepare on its browser platform and use the iPhone or iPad companion app to access playbooks. The app requires an active membership.

Choose a flag membership with the right period and single-user or team access. Its wristband sheets and play cards give you physical outputs for practice and the sideline. The FirstDown comparison puts those choices beside Routr’s on-device playbook.

Set Hike: for live game management on iPad

Choose Set Hike when you want to manage the score, clock and play outcomes beside your formations. It also offers visual formations with player photos and play scripts for planning a series. It requires iPadOS 18.0 or later.

Start with the sideline jobs you want on screen during the game. Then check the Pro purchase and any printing or sync features you need. The Set Hike comparison keeps those details together.

Try one familiar call before choosing

Take a play your team already knows through the work you do each week. Change a route, find the call again, show the quarterback the first read and share it with an assistant. If you use wristbands, print a card and check it inside the band.

Choose the app that fits your devices, your coaching staff and the outputs you carry. Keep your play names and numbers consistent as you move the set into practice. The wristband guide helps you check the cards before printing for the team.

Take your next play to the field.
